Introduction
Having dark circles despite not staying up late may be due to genetic factors, skin inflammation, or liver or kidney disease. The primary cause of dark circles is the thinness of the eyelid skin and the looseness of the underlying subcutaneous tissue, which impairs venous return beneath the skin and leads to melanin deposition. Some individuals develop dark circles even without sleep deprivation—this is often attributable to naturally thin skin or inherited traits.

Staying up late is a common cause of dark circles under the eyes. Nowadays, many women experience high levels of stress; after work in the evening, they often still need to clean their homes, leading to frequent late-night hours. So why do some people still develop dark circles even without staying up late?

Why Do Dark Circles Appear Even Without Staying Up Late?

Dark circles may persist despite adequate sleep due to factors such as genetics, skin inflammation, or liver and kidney disorders. The primary reason for dark circles is the thinness of the eyelid skin and the looseness of the underlying subcutaneous tissue, which impairs venous return and leads to melanin deposition. Some individuals develop dark circles even without sleep deprivation—this may be due to naturally thin eyelid skin or inherited traits. Skin inflammation—often triggered by using low-quality cosmetics around the eyes—can also contribute. In particular, women who use inferior cosmetics may, with advancing age, experience eyelid skin laxity and increased pigmentation, resulting in visible dark circles beneath the skin. Liver or kidney disease can likewise cause melanin accumulation beneath the eyelid skin, and excessive sexual activity may also contribute to dark circles.

Local massage can help alleviate dark circles. Begin by gently pressing the lower eyelid with your index and middle fingers, then perform gentle back-and-forth massage motions. Light pressure promotes local blood circulation, gradually improving the appearance of dark circles. If dark circles result from insufficient sleep, cold compresses with a towel may help. First, place ice cubes into a plastic bag, fold a towel in half, lay it over the eyelids, and then position the ice-filled bag on top. Consistent application over time can produce a noticeable alleviating effect.

If dark circles are severe, ensuring adequate rest is essential. We hope this information proves helpful.
