Introduction
Dampness removal can be achieved through herbal medicine, gua sha (scraping therapy), cupping, and moxibustion. 1. Herbal Medicine Therapy: This involves taking traditional Chinese herbal formulas to regulate the body’s internal environment and expel dampness. 2. Gua Sha and Cupping: These therapies help open the pores, thereby facilitating the elimination of dampness. 3. Moxibustion: Burning mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) and applying its heat to specific acupuncture points helps unblock the meridians and harmonize yin and yang.

In general, due to individual physiological differences, there is no universally optimal treatment for dampness. The most appropriate approach is to tailor therapy according to each patient’s specific condition. Pharmacological treatment may be employed to alleviate symptoms; when necessary, adjunctive therapies such as gua sha (scraping), cupping, and moxibustion can also be used to regulate the body and effectively eliminate dampness.

1. Pharmacological Therapy: This approach requires guidance from a qualified practitioner and typically involves oral administration of traditional Chinese herbal medicines—commonly including Poria (Fuling), Coix seed (Yi Yi Ren), Chinese yam (Shan Yao), and Atractylodes (Bai Zhu). These herbs help promote the efficient elimination of internal dampness from the body.

2. Gua Sha and Cupping: Gua sha and cupping are widely practiced health-preserving techniques, particularly indicated for cases of pronounced internal dampness. By inducing local skin hyperemia and opening the pores, these methods facilitate the outward expulsion of dampness.

3. Moxibustion: Moxibustion employs moxa cones or sticks made from dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) and applies gentle heat to specific acupuncture points. This therapy not only promotes smooth flow of Qi and blood through the meridians but also helps harmonize Yin and Yang. Although moxibustion offers substantial health benefits, it should not be performed daily; two to three sessions per week are generally recommended.
