Introduction
The primary clinical manifestation of conjunctivitis (“pink eye”) is redness of the eyes, characterized by copious ocular discharge upon waking, making it difficult to open the eyes. Patients commonly experience a distinct foreign-body sensation, burning, and sometimes eye pain, photophobia, and tearing. Moreover, conjunctivitis is highly contagious—illness in one individual can readily lead to infection throughout an entire household. Therefore, prompt pharmacologic treatment should be initiated as soon as symptoms appear.

Conjunctivitis—commonly known as “pink eye”—is an acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis that is highly contagious, typically occurring during spring and summer. Once one person contracts this condition, other family members are at high risk of infection. Therefore, appropriate isolation is recommended upon diagnosis, and prompt medical treatment is strongly advised.

  What Is Pink Eye?

The primary clinical manifestation of pink eye is ocular redness. A hallmark feature is excessive eye discharge upon waking, often causing difficulty opening the eyes. Patients commonly experience a pronounced foreign-body sensation, burning, and sometimes eye pain, photophobia, and tearing. Moreover, pink eye is extremely contagious; infection in one individual can rapidly spread to the entire household. Thus, timely pharmacological treatment is essential following onset to alleviate ocular symptoms and shorten the disease course. During treatment, patients must maintain strict ocular hygiene and wash their hands frequently. Towels, washbasins, bedding, and other personal items should not be shared with family members to prevent transmission.

Patients with pink eye should consume light, easily digestible foods, along with fresh fruits and vegetables—such as bananas and apples. Spicy foods should be avoided, as should raw onions, garlic, fish, shrimp, mutton, and other seafood or lamb products, which may trigger allergic reactions. Additionally, mangoes and other fruits known to provoke allergies should also be avoided. As pink eye is a form of epidemic conjunctivitis, rigorous personal hygiene is imperative.

Patients are advised to avoid public places whenever possible, maintain a light diet, ensure adequate rest, and take prescribed medications regularly. We hope this information proves helpful.
