Introduction
Excessive internal dampness can cause blisters on the fingers. This condition is generally associated with internal damp-heat in the patient, or may result from prolonged exposure to a humid environment or frequent contact with water. From a Western medical perspective, it is primarily attributed to allergic or irritant factors. Clinically, this presentation may indicate one of two conditions: eczema or tinea manuum (hand fungus).

Excess dampness in the body can cause blisters on the fingers.

Causes

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), excessive dampness may lead to eczema and blister formation on the fingers, primarily due to impaired spleen function (reduced transformation and transportation) and stagnation of Qi flow.

Clinical Manifestations

Symptoms include erythematous patches, small papules, or vesicles on the fingers; in severe cases, vesicular fluid may exude and swelling may occur. These lesions are typically accompanied by pruritus of varying intensity and often present bilaterally.

Precautions

Patients should avoid scratching the affected skin to prevent secondary infection. Maintaining good skin hygiene and cleanliness is essential. Diet should be light yet nutritious; patients should avoid greasy, overly sweet, spicy, or stimulating foods. Regular sleep patterns—avoiding late-night activities—and maintaining a positive emotional state are recommended. Regular physical exercise is also beneficial.
