Applying gentle heat to the lower abdomen may help alleviate light menstrual flow. Since menstrual blood originates from the uterus, cold exposure to the abdominal area can impede blood circulation—particularly effective for women experiencing scanty menstruation. Therefore, maintaining warmth in the lower abdomen is especially important; doing so helps regulate menstrual irregularities. Before bedtime, apply a warm towel to the lower abdomen for approximately 30 minutes daily. After six months of consistent practice, noticeable improvement in menstrual flow is often observed. Brown sugar is rich in nutrients, multiple vitamins, and trace elements, effectively warming the uterus and replenishing vital energy—making it an excellent natural aid for women managing menstrual concerns.

During menstruation, avoid contact with cold water—do not swim or wash your hair with cold water. Refrain from strenuous physical labor or intense exercise during this time to prevent excessive fatigue and further menstrual irregularities. Light menstrual flow refers to significantly reduced volume compared to normal, commonly caused by blood deficiency, qi stagnation with blood stasis, cold congealing the vessels, or phlegm obstruction. The underlying pathogenesis of scanty menstruation may involve either deficiency or excess patterns: deficiency patterns typically stem from constitutional weakness, prolonged or serious illness, chronic blood loss, or dietary habits damaging the Spleen or Kidney, resulting in depletion of the “Sea of Blood” (Chong Mai) and consequently diminished menstrual flow.
