Introduction
The most prominent symptom of uterine fibroids is menstrual irregularity. Over half of patients with uterine fibroids experience such irregularities, specifically manifesting as menorrhagia (excessively heavy menstrual bleeding), prolonged menstrual cycles, or abnormally short cycles. Additionally, some patients may experience abnormal uterine bleeding during menstruation.

Uterine fibroids may result from endocrine disorders. Only a very small proportion of uterine fibroids undergo malignant transformation. What, then, are the most prominent symptoms of uterine fibroids?

Most Prominent Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids

The most prominent symptom of uterine fibroids is menstrual irregularity. Over half of patients with uterine fibroids experience such disturbances, manifesting as menorrhagia (excessively heavy menstrual bleeding), prolonged or abnormally shortened menstrual cycles. Some patients may also experience abnormal vaginal bleeding during menstruation. Additionally, uterine fibroids can present as an abdominal mass; palpation of the abdomen may reveal a distinct, palpable lump—indicating that the fibroid has grown to a substantial size. In such cases, patients often develop marked urinary frequency and urgency.

If left untreated, hydronephrosis may develop. Uterine fibroids may also cause increased vaginal discharge. When fibroids compress the uterine cavity, endometrial secretions increase and pelvic congestion occurs, potentially leading to abnormal bleeding or infection—and consequently, purulent vaginal discharge. Moreover, women with uterine fibroids face a significantly elevated risk of miscarriage during pregnancy.

Women diagnosed with uterine fibroids should promptly seek medical evaluation and initiate appropriate treatment. We hope this article has been helpful. Wishing you a joyful life and good health!
