Introduction
When your baby’s skin is broken, first clean the wound thoroughly using running tap water or a clean towel. After cleaning, apply iodophor to disinfect the wound. Then, apply a small amount of erythromycin ointment or mupirocin ointment—using a clean cotton swab—to the wound directly. Apply three times daily.

Babies are naturally active and prone to jumping around and grabbing objects indiscriminately. Coupled with their delicate, immature skin, minor scratches or abrasions are common in daily life. In such cases, how should parents respond? Which medications should be applied? Details are as follows:

When a baby’s skin is broken, the first step is to thoroughly clean the wound. Rinse it gently under running water, or use a clean towel to gently squeeze out contaminated blood—starting from areas farther away from the wound and moving toward it—then carefully wipe the area clean.

After cleaning, apply iodophor to the wound. Iodophor is an antiseptic commonly used for initial wound management. Avoid repeatedly using the same cotton swab to reapply iodophor directly onto the wound, as this may introduce infection.

Once iodophor has been applied, you may choose either erythromycin ointment or mupirocin ointment. Place a small amount on a clean cotton swab and apply it directly to the wound three times daily.

Monitor the wound closely each day. If the wound area gradually shrinks, healing is progressing normally. However, if redness, swelling, or a pulsating sensation develops, this may indicate abscess formation; promptly take your baby to the hospital for evaluation and treatment—incision and drainage may be necessary.

Additionally, pay close attention to your baby’s daily diet. Avoid feeding spicy or irritating foods, as these can impede wound healing and potentially worsen the condition.
