Introduction
Under normal circumstances, a SARS-CoV-2 antigen test kit contains four items: a nasal swab, a disposable sampling device, a test card, and an instruction manual. For nasal swab collection, the operator typically holds the swab handle and gently inserts the swab into the subject’s nostril—usually to a depth of approximately 1–1.5 cm—rotating it four times in each nostril before slowly withdrawing it.

Currently, “antigen testing” generally refers to SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing, which typically involves nasal swab collection.

SARS-CoV-2 antigen testing is a rapid diagnostic method that detects viral antigens via antigen–antibody binding reactions on a lateral flow test strip. It is commonly used to determine whether an individual is infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. A typical SARS-CoV-2 antigen test kit contains four components: a nasal swab, a single-use extraction tube (sampling device), a test card, and an instruction manual. For nasal swab collection, hold the swab by its handle and gently insert it into the subject’s nostril—approximately 1–1.5 cm deep—then rotate it four times against each nasal wall before slowly withdrawing it. Place the collected specimen into the extraction tube, snap off the swab handle, and seal the tube to complete sample collection. After waiting 15–30 minutes, interpret the test result according to the instructions provided; a negative result indicates no detectable SARS-CoV-2 antigen.

Please note: Individuals should avoid smoking, drinking alcohol, or consuming other substances for at least 30 minutes prior to testing. During the waiting period for results, refrain from talking with others or gathering in crowds, and wear a mask at all times.
