Renal hypertension can occur in various kidney disorders: glomerular diseases may present with hematuria, proteinuria, and edema, whereas interstitial kidney diseases may cause nocturia, decreased urine specific gravity, and urinary frequency.

Renal hypertension refers to elevated blood pressure caused by intrinsic renal parenchymal disease; its primary treatment involves addressing the underlying specific kidney disorder. For example, in cases of glomerulonephritis, anti-infective therapy is central. Concurrently, medications that protect renal function and lower blood pressure may be used. If renal hypertension stems from renal artery stenosis, interventions such as renal artery balloon angioplasty and renal artery stent placement are appropriate. Once the stenosis resolves, blood pressure typically returns to normal. However, if the underlying kidney disease remains uncontrolled, long-term antihypertensive medication is required to maintain blood pressure within the normal range.

Patients should prioritize adequate rest, avoid smoking and alcohol consumption, and limit intake of high-fat and high-salt foods.
