Effects and Functions of Prednisone Tablets
Prednisone tablets typically refer to prednisone acetate tablets, a type of glucocorticoid medication. Its primary pharmacological effects include anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and immunosuppressive actions; modulation of the blood and hematopoietic systems; and anti-shock effects.

1. Anti-inflammatory effect
Prednisone acetate exerts anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting connective tissue proliferation, reducing capillary wall and cell membrane permeability, decreasing inflammatory exudation, and suppressing the formation and release of histamine and other toxic substances.
2. Antiallergic effect
This drug reduces circulating T lymphocytes, monocytes, and eosinophils; inhibits macrophage uptake and processing of antigens; and prevents immune complex formation—thereby alleviating allergic reactions.
3. Immunosuppressive effect
Prednisone acetate is a short-acting glucocorticoid that suppresses immune cell–mediated inflammatory responses in vivo and inhibits the synthesis and release of interleukins, thereby limiting the spread of primary immune responses.
4. Effects on blood and the hematopoietic system
This medication increases red blood cell count and hemoglobin concentration. High doses may elevate platelet count and fibrinogen levels, shortening coagulation time. Additionally, it promotes the release of neutrophils from bone marrow into circulation, increasing neutrophil numbers—but simultaneously impairs neutrophil motility, phagocytosis, digestion, and glycolysis.
5. Anti-shock effect
This drug improves shock status by dilating spastically constricted blood vessels, enhancing myocardial contractility, and reducing vascular sensitivity to certain vasoconstrictive substances—thus restoring normal microcirculatory hemodynamics.
Individuals with known allergies should strictly follow medical advice when using this medication. Moreover, patients undergoing long-term therapy must taper the dose gradually before discontinuation. Prednisone acetate may predispose users to common colds and bacterial or fungal infections, and can irritate the gastrointestinal tract, potentially causing gastrointestinal discomfort. Therefore, it must be used strictly under physician supervision.
