Introduction
Painless intrauterine device (IUD) insertion is performed as follows: The patient lies in the lithotomy position on the treatment chair. An anesthesiologist administers anesthesia. The physician then disinfects the external genitalia, vagina, cervix, and cervical canal. The cervix is grasped with a clamp, and a uterine sound is used to measure the depth of the uterine cavity. Subsequently, an IUD inserter is employed to gently advance the IUD into the uterine cavity. Once bleeding is confirmed to be absent, the procedure is complete.

When women do not plan to become pregnant and are uncertain about the reliability of routine contraceptive methods, they may opt for painless intrauterine device (IUD) insertion—a highly effective contraceptive method. The specific procedure for painless IUD insertion is as follows:

1. The patient lies supine on the examination table with legs apart in the lithotomy position;

2. The anesthesiologist selects an appropriate dose of anesthetic based on the patient’s individual condition and administers it slowly via intravenous injection;

3. The physician disinfects the external genitalia, vagina, cervix, and cervical canal;

4. The cervix is grasped with a clamp; a uterine sound is then inserted along the natural axis of the uterus to measure uterine cavity depth; finally, the IUD is gently advanced into the uterine cavity using an IUD inserter. Once bleeding is confirmed to be absent, the procedure is complete.

Postoperatively, patients are advised to rest for three days, avoid strenuous physical activity for seven days, abstain from sexual intercourse and tub bathing for two weeks, and maintain external genital hygiene. Follow-up visits should be scheduled as instructed; however, patients should seek medical attention promptly if any unusual symptoms arise.
