儿童左髋关节急性滑膜炎
Every parent hopes their child will progress smoothly along the path of growth. However, children commonly encounter various illnesses during development. Transient synovitis of the hip is one such relatively common condition among children, significantly affecting their healthy growth and development. So, what exactly is acute left hip synovitis in children?
Acute Left Hip Synovitis in Children
Acute left hip synovitis in children may be associated with viral infections or trauma. Onset can be either sudden or gradual. Tuberculin skin tests, rheumatoid factor titers, and antistreptolysin O (ASO) antibody titers are typically negative. Hip X-rays usually appear normal or may show only minimal joint effusion; no bony changes are present. Children diagnosed with hip synovitis should rest in bed, avoid weight-bearing, and use topical anti-inflammatory medications until hip pain resolves and range of motion returns to normal. Some physicians recommend continued rest for a period after symptoms have subsided. Although children often find it difficult to remain still and confined to bed due to restlessness, every effort should still be made to comply. A short course of antibiotics may be administered; however, corticosteroids are not recommended. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this condition results from external pathogenic factors, joint injury, obstruction of acupoints, and fluid accumulation.

Children diagnosed with transient hip synovitis should undergo clinical follow-up by a physician two weeks after symptom onset. Additional clinical evaluations may be necessary at 2 months and 6 months following the initial episode. Synovitis is a joint disorder caused by irritation of the synovial membrane, leading to dysregulated synovial fluid secretion and accumulation. Stimulating nerve endings in the affected area can rapidly unblock meridians and restore physiological function of the local tissues. This approach simultaneously alleviates wind-dampness, relieves pain and swelling, and enhances nutritional supply to peri-synovial tissues—thereby promoting comprehensive repair of damaged synovium. Prompt treatment of synovitis is essential. Application of the traditional Chinese herbal plaster “Yushan Gao” is recommended: it promotes blood circulation, resolves stasis, relaxes tendons and activates collaterals, reduces inflammation, and relieves pain—achieving both symptomatic and root-cause treatment.

The affected limb must be immobilized, and activity minimized as much as possible. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
