Can coronary heart disease be cured?
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a type of heart disease. Regarding heart diseases in general, most people are aware of their potentially severe health consequences; thus, CHD is also considered a relatively serious condition for affected patients. Severe cases of CHD can pose an immediate life-threatening risk.
Can coronary heart disease be cured?
Currently, CHD cannot be cured in clinical practice because the development and progression of atherosclerosis—the underlying pathological process—are irreversible. Available treatment options include pharmacotherapy and interventional procedures, both aimed at slowing the progression of atherosclerosis. However, no current therapy can reverse established atherosclerotic changes. Therefore, CHD remains incurable at present. While prevention and control of risk factors can alleviate clinical symptoms, improve coronary artery stenosis, and slow disease progression in patients with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, neither CHD nor atherosclerosis itself can yet be cured.

Although CHD cannot be completely cured, systematic, long-term management can effectively delay disease progression and prevent complications. Patients with CHD are prone to recurrence; therefore, while complete cure is not possible, early detection and timely intervention remain critical. In the early stages, drug therapy—under physician guidance—may include vasodilators, antiplatelet agents, and lipid-lowering medications. Interventional treatments (e.g., percutaneous coronary intervention) may also be employed to effectively improve myocardial blood supply and oxygenation. Additionally, patients should strengthen daily self-care: avoid spicy, stimulating, or high-fat foods; strictly adhere to prescribed medication regimens (both dosage and timing); and undergo regular follow-up examinations at healthcare facilities.

Patients are advised to maintain healthy lifestyle habits, adopt a light and balanced diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and abstain from smoking and alcohol consumption. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
