Introduction
Mangoes can be consumed during menstruation. They are rich in dietary fiber, potassium, vitamins A and C, calcium, magnesium, and other minerals—providing a wide range of essential nutrients that help meet increased nutritional demands during this period. Moreover, mangoes have a pleasantly sweet-and-sour flavor and possess properties that quench thirst, promote salivation, strengthen gastric function, and alleviate nausea. Therefore, moderate consumption of mangoes during menstruation may enhance appetite and help improve anorexia.

Mangoes are a commonly consumed fruit in daily life—deliciously sweet and rich in nutrients. But can women eat mangoes during menstruation?

Can women eat mangoes during menstruation?

Yes, women may consume mangoes during their menstrual period. Mangoes are rich in dietary fiber, potassium, vitamins A and C, calcium, magnesium, and other essential minerals—providing valuable nutritional support during menstruation. Additionally, their pleasantly tart-sweet flavor offers benefits including thirst quenching, promoting salivation, strengthening gastric function, and alleviating nausea. Thus, moderate consumption of mangoes during menstruation may help stimulate appetite and relieve anorexia.

However, mangoes are considered “cooling” in nature according to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), so excessive intake is not advisable. Overconsumption may adversely affect health. Some individuals are allergic to mangoes, which may trigger contact dermatitis or skin rashes, as well as gastrointestinal discomfort. In particular, those with qi deficiency or spleen deficiency should limit mango intake. Excessive consumption may cause a sensation of fullness, exacerbate pre-existing skin conditions or gynecological disorders (e.g., abnormal vaginal discharge), and worsen symptoms in individuals with dampness-dominant constitutions—since mangoes are classified as “damp-heat” foods in TCM. Moreover, overeating mangoes may contribute to weight gain. Therefore, while mangoes can be enjoyed in moderation, overindulgence should be avoided.

During menstruation, women should also prioritize keeping warm. Diet-wise, warming foods are recommended—such as millet porridge, eight-treasure porridge, or steamed egg custard. Additionally, drinking moderate amounts of brown sugar–ginger tea may be beneficial. We hope this information is helpful!
