Introduction
If a woman experiences increased vaginal discharge and external genital itching, Fuyanjie (a topical antiseptic wash) may be used temporarily for irrigation; however, it is advisable to identify the underlying cause before initiating drug therapy. Fuyanjie only provides temporary relief from itching and cannot fully cure the condition—consultation with a healthcare provider at a hospital is recommended. Given the increased discharge, a routine vaginal discharge examination may be performed as needed to identify the causative pathogen(s); treatment should then be tailored accordingly to achieve clinical cure.

Under normal circumstances, women may experience increased vaginal discharge before or after menstruation or during ovulation; however, this discharge typically has no noticeable odor. If vaginal discharge increases significantly and is accompanied by itching, it warrants attention. In such cases, can Fuyanjie (a common over-the-counter antiseptic wash) be used?

Can Fuyanjie be used for increased vaginal discharge with itching?

If a woman experiences increased vaginal discharge and external genital itching, Fuyanjie may be used temporarily for cleansing. However, it is advisable to first identify the underlying cause before initiating treatment. Fuyanjie provides only temporary relief from itching and does not address the root cause of the condition. Therefore, consulting a healthcare provider at a hospital is strongly recommended. A high-magnification microscopic examination of vaginal secretions (routine vaginal discharge test) may be performed as needed to identify the specific pathogen involved. Targeted antimicrobial therapy can then be prescribed based on the identified pathogen, aiming for complete clinical resolution.

If the itching stems from localized inflammation of the vulvar skin, in addition to cleansing with Fuyanjie, topical application of mometasone furoate ointment or pimecrolimus ointment (e.g., Pireston) may be employed for effective management and full recovery. However, if the itching results from vulvar dystrophy (nutritional deficiency of the vulva), Fuyanjie should be avoided, as it may exacerbate local pruritus. In such cases, appropriate medication should be administered under medical supervision.

Maintaining good hygiene of the external genital area is essential. Before bedtime each day, gently cleanse the vulva with warm water. Additionally, develop the habit of regularly changing and washing undergarments, ensuring they are thoroughly dried in direct sunlight. We hope this information proves helpful!
