Introduction
For children with yin deficiency and internal heat, parents can make adjustments in the following areas. First, encourage children to drink more warm water. Children with yin deficiency and internal heat often experience dry stools, yellowish urine, and dry lips. After drinking boiled water, such children typically show improvement in these symptoms. Second, increase their intake of vegetables and fruits.

Many people today mistakenly interpret symptoms of yin deficiency and internal heat as “excessive fire” (a common TCM concept referring to inflammatory or hyperactive conditions). Yin deficiency with internal heat is a syndrome caused by insufficient yin fluids—including blood, body fluids, and essence—leading to inadequate nourishment and cooling of the body, thereby resulting in pathological heat.

How to Regulate Yin Deficiency with Internal Heat in Children

Parents can support children with yin deficiency and internal heat through the following approaches. First, encourage children to drink plenty of warm water. Children with this condition often present with dry stools, dark yellow urine, and chapped lips. Providing warm boiled water regularly helps alleviate these symptoms. Second, increase intake of vegetables and fruits. These foods supply essential vitamins and hydration, effectively improving yin deficiency and internal heat. Third, consider appropriate herbal therapy—specifically, herbs that nourish yin.

The treatment strategy may vary depending on the underlying cause of yin-fluid depletion. For instance, if lung heat resulting from a cold has damaged yin, herbal teas made from ingredients such as asparagus root (tian men dong), dwarf lilyturf tuber (mai men dong), and scrophularia root (xuan shen) may be beneficial. In more severe cases, formulas like Mai Wei Di Huang Wan (Rehmannia Six Formula with Ophiopogon and Platycodon) may be prescribed. If stomach yin is depleted, children may experience frequent dry retching, dry mouth and throat, and a strong preference for cold water. In such cases, soaking sea cucumber, dwarf lilyturf tuber, and scrophularia root in water for consumption may help.

Avoid smoking and alcohol; maintain regular sleep-wake cycles and avoid staying up late. Ensure balanced meals incorporating both meat and vegetables to support overall nutrition, and encourage regular outdoor physical activity. We hope this information proves helpful.
