Introduction
The pain associated with pulpitis arises because the dental pulp resides within the pulp chamber—a rigid, non-elastic cavity—where blood circulation occurs only through narrow apical foramina. Once inflammation develops, inflammatory exudate cannot be readily drained, leading to a rapid increase in intrapulpal pressure and resulting in severe, intense pain. At this stage, prompt pain relief requires external intervention—specifically, removal of the pulp (pulp extirpation).

Some individuals enjoy spicy food daily and, combined with unhealthy dietary habits, may develop various oral health issues—such as periodontitis and pulpitis. So, how can pulpitis pain be relieved quickly?

Quick Pain Relief for Pulpitis

The intense pain associated with pulpitis arises because the dental pulp resides within the rigid, non-elastic pulp chamber, where blood circulation occurs only through narrow apical foramina. Once inflammation develops, inflammatory exudate cannot drain easily, rapidly increasing intrapulpal pressure and causing severe, distinct pain. To achieve rapid pain relief, external intervention is required—specifically, removal of the inflamed pulp. Thus, upon clinical confirmation of pulpitis in a tooth, the dentist first administers local anesthesia to eliminate pain, then performs a pulpotomy (pulp chamber opening) using a dental drill to drain the inflammatory exudate and breach the hard walls of the pulp chamber. This procedure provides prompt pain relief.

Pulpitis refers to inflammation of the dental pulp tissue. If left untreated, pulpitis may progress to apical periodontitis (root inflammation). Apical periodontitis typically presents with spontaneous pain; the affected tooth may feel elongated, exhibit throbbing pain, and be extremely sensitive to biting—causing patients to avoid occlusion altogether. Pulpitis itself is characterized by paroxysmal, severe pain, which worsens with any excessive stimulation. Both pulpitis and apical periodontitis are treatable with root canal therapy.

Patients are advised to maintain good oral hygiene, engage in appropriate physical activity, ensure adequate sleep and rest, and increase intake of vitamin C–rich foods. We hope this information proves helpful.
