Can excessive sexual activity cause watery vaginal discharge?
Sexual activity refers to an intimate physical interaction between two individuals after puberty, which provides pleasurable sensations and also enables reproduction. However, some women notice abnormal vaginal discharge (leukorrhea) following sexual intercourse. Could excessive sexual activity lead to watery vaginal discharge?
Can excessive sexual activity cause watery vaginal discharge?
In women with frequent sexual activity, watery vaginal discharge may occur. Excessively frequent intercourse can alter the vaginal pH level. When the vaginal environment becomes more alkaline, local immunity may decline. Additionally, bacteria carried on the male partner’s genitalia during intercourse may enter the uterine cavity via the vagina, increasing susceptibility to pathogenic bacterial infection. This may result in vaginitis or cervicitis, manifesting as watery vaginal discharge accompanied by pruritus vulvae (itching of the external genitalia).

Vaginitis and cervicitis are commonly triggered by repeated mechanical stimulation from frequent sexual intercourse. Women are therefore advised to moderate the frequency of sexual activity. If abnormal vaginal discharge occurs, sexual activity should be temporarily suspended, and a medical consultation scheduled for routine vaginal discharge testing to identify the specific type of inflammation and guide appropriate pharmacological treatment.

During treatment, sexual activity must be avoided until full recovery is achieved, to prevent cross-infection between partners or exacerbation of the existing condition. We hope this information proves helpful to you!
