Introduction
Conservative treatment for chronic pulpitis involves opening the pulp chamber to relieve pressure, irrigating with warm saline solution, and then placing an analgesic dressing. A small cotton pellet soaked in eugenol or dental analgesic solution may be placed in the cavity to provide temporary pain relief. Additionally, anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications are often prescribed. Chronic pulpitis typically develops when deep caries remains untreated for an extended period.

Teeth are the human body’s chewing organs. Prior to consuming any food, individuals must chew it with their teeth to facilitate digestion. However, teeth are also prone to various diseases due to certain factors—pulpitis being one such condition. So, what is conservative treatment for chronic pulpitis?

Conservative Treatment for Chronic Pulpitis

Conservative treatment for chronic pulpitis involves opening the pulp chamber to relieve pressure, irrigating the area with warm saline solution, and then placing analgesic medication. Small cotton pellets soaked in eugenol or dental analgesic solution may be placed within the tooth cavity to provide temporary pain relief. Additionally, anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications are typically prescribed.

Chronic pulpitis commonly develops when deep caries remain untreated. If deep caries are not addressed promptly, bacteria can infect the dental pulp, eventually leading to chronic pulpitis after prolonged exposure. Unlike acute pulpitis, chronic pulpitis does not usually cause severe, sharp pain; instead, patients often experience dull, persistent discomfort, pain triggered by thermal stimuli (cold or heat), and spontaneous pain. For patients with chronic pulpitis, pulp extirpation (nerve removal) is generally required, which necessitates a pulpotomy—a surgical procedure performed under local anesthesia. Following pulpotomy, neurotoxic agents may be applied to eliminate the remaining nerve tissue.

When experiencing symptoms of chronic pulpitis, avoid consuming excessively hot foods, as this may impede healing of oral mucosal bleeding. Regarding diet, opt for high-protein, easily chewable foods—such as milk or congee—which are both nutritious and gentle on the teeth. We hope this information proves helpful.
