Introduction
Patients with pancreatitis must abstain from alcohol and avoid fatty, spicy, or irritating foods. Specific foods that should be strictly avoided in pancreatitis include those high in fat and cholesterol—such as organ meats, certain seafood, fatty cuts of meat, heavily processed canned foods, margarine, and caviar. These foods may trigger pancreatitis by promoting gallstone formation in the biliary system.

The causes of pancreatitis can be categorized as biliary pancreatitis, alcoholic pancreatitis, hyperlipidemia-induced pancreatitis, obesity-related pancreatitis, or pancreatitis triggered by certain medications. The etiology of pancreatitis is closely linked to dietary habits and lifestyle factors—particularly bile and alcohol consumption. So, what foods should be avoided in pancreatitis?

  Foods to Avoid in Pancreatitis

Individuals with pancreatitis must abstain from alcohol and avoid greasy, spicy, or highly stimulating foods. Specific foods that are contraindicated include those rich in high fat and high cholesterol—such as organ meats (e.g., liver, kidney), certain seafood, fatty cuts of meat, heavily processed canned foods, margarine, and caviar. These foods may precipitate pancreatitis by promoting gallstone formation within the biliary system.

Note that patients with chronic pancreatitis are prone to steatorrhea (fatty diarrhea) and subsequent malnutrition. Therefore, their diet should emphasize nutrient-dense foods such as fish, lean meats, high-quality protein sources, and tofu. Carbohydrate-rich foods—including rice, noodles, and fresh vegetables—should also be consumed regularly, as they help effectively prevent pancreatitis. To reduce pancreatitis risk, fat intake must be minimized, and overeating—especially during social gatherings—should be avoided. Excessive food intake impairs digestion and increases the likelihood of pancreatitis onset.

In daily life, cultivating healthy lifestyle and dietary habits is essential. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
