Introduction
Flat warts typically do not leave scars after laser treatment. The rash of flat warts is relatively superficial, usually confined to the epidermis. Local laser photonic and photothermal stimulation activates the body’s immune response, thereby eliminating infected cells and tissues. In most cases, localized pathological tissue is removed through carbonization or vaporization of the infected cells at the site.

Laser ablation is currently a commonly used method for removing flat warts. For the majority of patients, it yields excellent results and effectively eliminates the warts. However, in a minority of cases, this approach may be incomplete and can lead to certain adverse reactions. So, does laser treatment for flat warts leave scars?

Will laser treatment for flat warts leave scars?

In most cases, laser treatment for flat warts does not result in scarring. Flat warts are relatively superficial lesions, typically confined to the epidermis. Local laser photonic and photothermal stimulation activates the body’s immune response, thereby eliminating infected cells and tissues. Generally, infected cells undergo localized carbonization or vaporization, allowing removal of the pathological tissue. After crusting and subsequent shedding, complete skin repair occurs, enabling clinical assessment of recovery.

Flat warts can be stubborn, and their development is closely associated with immune instability and heightened local activity of human papillomavirus (HPV). Routine follow-up over three months is recommended; only after three months without recurrence can clinical remission be considered established. For refractory HPV infection or extensive flat warts, photodynamic therapy (PDT) is routinely employed. Under red-light irradiation, topically applied photosensitizers enable large-scale eradication of surface HPV, thereby promoting disease stabilization and recovery.
