Introduction
In early pregnancy, if a woman experiences only mild nausea and vomiting, she can relax and adjust her diet—consuming more fruits and vegetables—which will gradually alleviate these symptoms. Morning sickness typically lasts about one month and then significantly diminishes or resolves entirely, representing a normal physiological response. However, if nausea and vomiting occur during the second or third trimester, the underlying cause should be investigated.

Nausea and vomiting during pregnancy are very common and, in most cases, are not indicative of any underlying disease. They are primarily caused by hypoglycemia or morning sickness (early pregnancy reaction), which may lead to inadequate nutritional intake for the pregnant woman. So, how can nausea and vomiting during pregnancy be alleviated?

How to Alleviate Nausea and Vomiting During Pregnancy

During early pregnancy, if nausea and vomiting are mild, the expectant mother can relax and adjust her diet—consuming more fruits and vegetables—which often helps gradually ease these symptoms. Morning sickness typically lasts about one month and then noticeably diminishes or resolves entirely; this is considered a normal physiological response. However, if nausea and vomiting occur during the second or third trimester, the underlying cause should be investigated. In such cases, gastrointestinal disorders or food poisoning due to unhygienic food consumption may be responsible, necessitating prompt medical evaluation and treatment. Severe nausea and vomiting require immediate medical attention, including intravenous fluid therapy, to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

During the first trimester, pregnant women are advised to avoid strenuous physical activity. Instead, they should consume ample fruits and vegetables to ensure adequate nutrition, engage in light physical activities, and get regular sun exposure to promote calcium absorption and enhance immune function. Especially during early pregnancy, contact with pets should be minimized, as it may increase the risk of fetal malformations. Routine prenatal check-ups, maintaining a regular daily routine, paying attention to dietary habits, avoiding overeating, and refraining from staying up late are all essential. Typically, nausea and vomiting are most severe in the morning and naturally subside after approximately one month, requiring no specific intervention.

Pregnant women are advised to prioritize rest, eat light and easily digestible meals, adopt a “small, frequent meals” approach, and maintain a positive, relaxed mood. We hope this information proves helpful.
