Introduction
A dull, persistent pain in the cervix may be caused by gynecological inflammation. If a woman already has gynecological inflammation, it can easily lead to further inflammation and cause sharp or stabbing pain in the uterus. Additionally, many women today neglect personal hygiene, increasing their risk of developing such conditions. For example, abnormal endometrium may occur; during this condition, the endometrium may shed abnormally and its thickness may change.

Sometimes, some women frequently experience a dull, persistent pain in the cervix, which can be quite uncomfortable. So, what causes this dull cervical pain?

What Causes Dull Cervical Pain?

Dull cervical pain may stem from gynecological inflammation. Existing gynecological infections can readily trigger local inflammation, leading to uterine discomfort or sharp, stabbing pain. Additionally, many women today neglect personal hygiene, increasing their risk of such conditions. For example, endometrial abnormalities—such as abnormal shedding or changes in endometrial thickness—may occur, resulting in uterine pain. This pain is often bilateral (affecting both sides).

Sharp, stabbing pain most commonly occurs during menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea). In fact, this type of dysmenorrhea is typically primary (not caused by underlying pathology) and is especially common among adolescent girls; it usually diminishes gradually with age. To help prevent such pain, avoid strenuous physical activity and limit intake of spicy or irritating foods during menstruation and for approximately three days before and after.

Threatened miscarriage or induced abortion. If a pregnant woman experiences sharp, stabbing pain, it may signal a threatened miscarriage, warranting immediate medical evaluation at a hospital. Following an induced abortion, complications—including persistent pain—are relatively common. Since the procedure involves instrumentation within the uterus, it may cause uterine trauma, potentially leading to such symptoms. We hope this article has been helpful.
