Introduction
Hypertension and COVID-19 Vaccination: Eligibility depends on the individual’s clinical condition. Individuals with well-controlled hypertension and normal blood pressure may receive the COVID-19 vaccine. However, if blood pressure remains uncontrolled—i.e., remains elevated—despite antihypertensive medication, the COVID-19 vaccine is not recommended.

It is widely known that the causes of hypertension are highly complex and that this condition can lead to numerous other complications. Therefore, preventing the onset of hypertension is essential. To achieve effective prevention, one must first understand the disease itself. So, can individuals with hypertension receive the COVID-19 vaccine?

Can individuals with hypertension receive the COVID-19 vaccine?

Whether a person with hypertension may receive the COVID-19 vaccine depends on their individual clinical status. If hypertension is well-controlled and blood pressure remains within the normal range, vaccination is generally safe and recommended. However, if blood pressure remains uncontrolled despite antihypertensive medication—i.e., persistently elevated—then COVID-19 vaccination is not advisable at that time. Thus, prior to vaccination, healthcare providers should thoroughly review the patient’s medical history, current medications, and blood pressure control status.

Patients who have maintained stable, long-term blood pressure control can safely receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Conversely, if long-term blood pressure control remains suboptimal, vaccination should be deferred until better control is achieved. Additionally, proper dietary habits play a key role in hypertension prevention. First and foremost, salt intake must be strictly limited. Many foods—especially pickled or preserved items—contain high levels of sodium; therefore, consumption of such foods should be minimized. Intake of animal fats should also be reduced.

In daily life, cultivating healthy lifestyle and dietary habits is crucial. We hope this information has been helpful to you.
