What are the possible causes of persistent tinnitus recently?
Recently, I’ve been experiencing discomfort in my ears and was diagnosed with tinnitus after a medical examination. Since I have very limited knowledge about this condition, I’d like to learn more—specifically, what causes tinnitus, and why has my tinnitus been recurring lately?
Why Has My Tinnitus Been Recurring Lately?
Recurrent tinnitus can be categorized as either physiological or pathological. Physiological tinnitus occurs in quiet environments when intracranial bodily sounds (e.g., blood flow, muscle contractions) are perceived normally—yet still perceived as ringing. Pathological tinnitus arises from mild dysfunction of the brainstem. Other possible causes include chronic sleep deprivation, insufficient cerebral blood supply, or underlying neurological disorders—all of which may trigger tinnitus. Adequate rest is therefore essential.

Many elderly people believe that individuals with large earlobes enjoy good fortune. In fact, regardless of earlobe size, regularly massaging and stimulating the earlobes benefits health. Place both hands at the base of your ears: position your index fingers behind the ears and your middle fingers in front. Starting from the earlobes, gently pinch and push upward along the outer ear contour with moderate pressure—maintaining close contact with the auricle—until reaching the ear tips. Regular earlobe massage enhances local circulation, making ears less susceptible to cold, boosting mental alertness, supporting eye health, and even aiding facial toning. It may also help prevent tinnitus.

There is an acupuncture point on the sole of the foot called Yongquan (Kidney 1), and another on the palm known as Laogong (Pericardium 8), located at the tip of the ring finger when the hand is clenched into a fist. Regularly massaging Yongquan helps nourish the kidneys, while consistent stimulation of Laogong strengthens heart function. Placing the palms together—so that Laogong points face each other—facilitates harmonious interaction between Heart and Kidney meridians, thereby alleviating ear-related symptoms. We hope this information proves helpful!
