What Causes Pain on the Left Side of the Abdomen?
Left-sided abdominal pain is a common clinical symptom. What causes left-sided abdominal pain?
1. Colitis: Colitis can cause left-sided abdominal pain, which is a typical symptom of this condition. Specifically, patients experience a dull, persistent ache in the left abdomen, often accompanied by mild tenderness and hyperactive bowel sounds.

2. Urinary system disorders: Diseases of the urinary system may manifest as left-sided abdominal pain. If the pain correlates with urination, it likely originates from the urinary tract—such as kidney stones or ureteral stones. In addition to left lower quadrant pain, patients may present with hematuria and flank pain.
3. Genital inflammation: Inflammation of the genital organs can also cause left-sided abdominal pain. If the pain worsens after menstruation, chronic endometritis may be the underlying cause.

4. Pancreatitis: Left-sided abdominal pain is a classic symptom of pancreatitis. This pain is typically sudden and severe, often triggered by heavy meals or alcohol consumption, and tends to intensify after eating—sometimes leading to generalized abdominal pain. Patients experiencing left-sided abdominal pain should seek prompt medical evaluation and avoid self-medicating.
