Introduction
Frequent nosebleeds (epistaxis) are closely associated with trauma, mucosal erosion, unstable blood pressure, hematologic disorders, and nasal tumors. For example, frequent nose-blowing and dry weather may cause mucosal erosion and subsequent bleeding. Hypertension and blood pressure fluctuations can lead to hypertensive epistaxis. Additionally, certain hematologic disorders—due to abnormalities in the coagulation system—may also result in nasal bleeding.

There are numerous causes of epistaxis (nosebleeds). Minor blood streaks are often incidental and may result from external factors. However, recurrent or prolonged nosebleeds may indicate an underlying medical condition. So, what could be causing frequent nosebleeds recently?

What Causes Frequent Nosebleeds Recently?

Frequent recent nosebleeds are closely associated with trauma, mucosal erosion, unstable blood pressure, hematologic disorders, and nasal tumors. For example, frequent nose-blowing and dry weather can lead to mucosal erosion and subsequent bleeding. Hypertension and blood pressure fluctuations may cause hypertensive epistaxis. Certain blood disorders—such as those impairing coagulation—can also predispose individuals to nasal bleeding. Additionally, inflammatory nasal conditions—including sinusitis, deviated nasal septum, nasal angiomata, nasal polyps, and benign or malignant nasal tumors—may indirectly trigger epistaxis.

To prevent epistaxis, maintain a clean indoor environment with appropriate temperature and humidity to avoid dryness-induced rhinitis and mucosal fissures. In elderly individuals, avoid forceful nose-blowing, which may rupture fragile mucosa; aging itself increases vascular fragility. Patients with hypertension or heart disease are particularly prone to epistaxis, so blood pressure must be carefully controlled within target ranges to reduce bleeding risk. Ensure regular, effortless bowel movements to prevent straining—which may cause localized mucosal rupture and bleeding. In children presenting with nasal congestion, refrain from using finger-based “nose-picking” techniques, as this may traumatize the nasal mucosa and provoke bleeding.

Patients are advised to consume ample fruits and vegetables while avoiding spicy or irritating foods, which may exacerbate local inflammation. We hope this information is helpful to you.
