Whether hospitalization is required for cervical conization depends on the specific surgical technique employed. Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) conization can typically be performed in an outpatient clinic setting without requiring hospital admission. The procedure is relatively brief and associated with minimal intraoperative bleeding.

However, for patients with extensive cervical lesions—requiring removal of larger amounts of cervical tissue—the risk of significant hemorrhage increases. In such cases, hospitalization for postoperative observation is recommended for enhanced safety.
Most cold-knife conizations are performed in a major operating room under local or epidural anesthesia. Compared with LEEP conization, cold-knife conization tends to cause greater intraoperative bleeding, necessitating wound closure with sutures for hemostasis. Postoperative bleeding risk is also higher; therefore, hospitalization is generally advised. Patients undergoing cold-knife conization typically require approximately three days of inpatient care. After the cervical wound begins to heal, patients may be discharged and continue follow-up monitoring on an outpatient basis.

After cervical conization, adequate rest is essential, and infection prevention is critical. Sexual intercourse and bathing should be avoided for 4–6 weeks postoperatively, and regular follow-up visits are mandatory. Cervical conization is usually scheduled between days 3–7 after the onset of menstruation; sexual abstinence is recommended for the three days preceding surgery.
