What Causes Cervical Pain?
In daily life, some women frequently experience neck pain—a distressing symptom that causes significant physical discomfort and serious psychological distress. But what exactly is “cervical pain”?
What Causes Cervical Pain?
When patients report pain in the cervix, it is typically not due to a primary cervical disorder but rather secondary to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or uterine/vaginal wall prolapse causing a sensation of heaviness or dragging pain. Cervical cancer and its precancerous lesions are usually detectable early through routine cervical cancer screening. Therefore, regardless of whether cervical pain is present, women should undergo regular cervical cancer screening. A visit to a gynecology clinic is necessary for a comprehensive internal gynecological examination and vaginal secretion testing. Additionally, a full pelvic ultrasound is required to assess for genital tract infections, cervical congestion, purulent cervical discharge, cervical tenderness upon bimanual examination, tenderness over the adnexal regions and uterine body, abnormal pelvic masses, pelvic fluid accumulation, and menstrual cycle regularity—since early ectopic pregnancy may also manifest as cervical pain.

If ectopic pregnancy is ruled out, most cases of cervical pain stem from inflammation and can be fully resolved with standardized anti-inflammatory and symptomatic treatment. Cervical pain commonly arises from cervicitis or cervical ectropion (formerly termed “cervical erosion”). For mild cases, topical treatments such as Xiaomi Suppositories may be considered under physician guidance. However, severe cases require evaluation and management—including possible surgical intervention—at a reputable hospital.

Women are advised to maintain good personal hygiene and schedule regular medical check-ups. Regarding diet, it is recommended to consume nutrient-rich foods, especially those high in protein. We hope this information proves helpful.
