The severity of tuberculous cavities depends on the extent of pulmonary lesions and whether symptoms such as hemoptysis are present. If a patient with pulmonary tuberculosis and pulmonary cavitation exhibits no significant hemoptysis and remains clinically stable, the condition is generally not considered severe. However, if the patient experiences massive hemoptysis or shows rapid clinical deterioration, the disease is more severe.

Cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. This condition readily affects other internal organs and can lead to various complications, including cor pulmonale, lung cancer, or pneumonia. Its incidence remains relatively high in China. Cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis is indeed a serious condition. The severity depends on the extent of pulmonary involvement and whether symptoms such as hemoptysis are present. If a patient with pulmonary tuberculosis and cavitation exhibits no significant hemoptysis and remains clinically stable, the condition is generally considered less severe. However, if the patient experiences massive hemoptysis and rapid clinical deterioration, the disease is significantly more serious. Hemoptysis may cause tracheal obstruction and subsequent asphyxiation, thereby threatening the patient’s life and health. Therefore, cavitary lesions resulting from pulmonary tuberculosis must not be underestimated, and timely therapeutic intervention is imperative.

When the cavity volume is large, the patient’s condition becomes highly unstable and is often accompanied by hemoptysis. Initially, the patient should promptly receive hemostatic medication to control bleeding. Once stabilized, further diagnostic evaluations—including chest radiography and other relevant imaging studies—are necessary to precisely assess the size and characteristics of the cavity. Appropriate surgical intervention may then be performed to repair the damaged local tissue. Postoperatively, continued administration of anti-infective agents is required to prevent secondary infection.
