Introduction
Acne should not be squeezed. Blindly squeezing acne can lead to complications: mild complications may result in follicular and pore dilation and obstruction, secondary bacterial infection, purulent discharge, and acute inflammation—such as swelling, warmth, and pain. Severe complications may cause subcutaneous soft tissue infection; if the lesion is located within the “dangerous triangle” of the face, it may even lead to intracranial infection and potentially trigger meningitis and other serious conditions.

Acne during puberty is very common and is mostly associated with hormonal fluctuations. However, if acne persists for a prolonged period, it not only makes the face oily but also gives an unkempt appearance, adversely affecting overall facial aesthetics. Therefore, in addition to avoiding spicy and irritating foods in your diet, you should also adopt numerous lifestyle adjustments to help prevent acne development. So—can pimples be squeezed?

Can pimples be squeezed?

Pimples should never be squeezed. Blindly squeezing them can lead to complications: mild cases may result in follicular and pore dilation, secondary bacterial infection, purulent discharge, and acute inflammatory symptoms such as swelling, warmth, and pain. Severe complications may cause subcutaneous soft-tissue infection; if the lesion lies within the “dangerous triangle” of the face (the area extending from the corners of the mouth to the bridge of the nose), it may even trigger intracranial infection or meningitis. Thus, it is essential to correctly understand acne and avoid squeezing. In addition to using topical medications that help tighten pores, maintaining clean, tidy, and hygienic skin is crucial.

Squeezing pimples is not recommended. Acne itself is a chronic inflammatory skin condition primarily caused by excessive sebum production at the skin surface, leading to follicular and pore obstruction. This environment promotes overgrowth of bacteria within the hair follicles, triggering cutaneous inflammation and manifesting as acne lesions. Consequently, pimples often harbor abundant bacteria and inflammatory cells. Manual squeezing may force these pathogens or inflammatory cells out, potentially spreading infection to adjacent skin areas.

Patients are advised to maintain healthy lifestyle habits—such as abstaining from smoking and alcohol, and adhering to a regular sleep schedule (going to bed early and rising early)—to support both physical and mental well-being. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
