Introduction
It is not advisable to use Fuyanjie indiscriminately for treating prickly heat. Fuyanjie possesses heat-clearing, detoxifying, and antibacterial properties; however, if stinging or burning sensations occur, calamine lotion or 61 powder may be used—under a physician’s guidance—to alleviate symptoms. It is essential to maintain skin cleanliness and hygiene, avoid excessively hot environments, ensure adequate ventilation and cooling, and refrain from consuming spicy foods.

During hot weather, eczema and prickly heat (miliaria) are common skin conditions affecting many people. Because eczema and prickly heat share certain similarities, individuals often confuse the two—leading to inappropriate self-treatment and potentially worsening symptoms. So, can Fuyanjie be used to treat prickly heat?

Can Fuyanjie Treat Prickly Heat?

Fuyanjie should not be used indiscriminately for treating prickly heat. While Fuyanjie possesses properties that clear heat, detoxify, and exert antibacterial effects, it is not indicated for prickly heat. If experiencing prickly heat, patients may use calamine lotion or 61 powder under medical supervision to alleviate symptoms. It is essential to maintain good skin hygiene, avoid overheated environments, ensure adequate ventilation and cooling, and refrain from consuming spicy foods.

Menthol-containing calamine lotion and talcum powder may be applied topically. For suppurative (pus-forming) prickly heat, a 2% ichthammol calamine lotion or Coptis (Huanglian) powder may be used externally. Orally, antihistamines such as loratadine or cetirizine may be prescribed. In cases of bacterial infection with suppuration, oral antibiotics may be administered for anti-inflammatory treatment. Additionally, traditional Chinese herbal remedies—such as honeysuckle (Jinyinhua)—may be taken orally to help clear heat, detoxify, and promote diuresis.

In daily life, patients should maintain a positive mindset, actively cooperate with their physicians’ treatment plans, take medications as prescribed—both in correct dosage and on schedule—and pay close attention to routine skincare measures to facilitate prompt symptom improvement. We hope this information proves helpful.
