Smoking and drinking more water does offer certain benefits.
Smoking is generally highly detrimental to health, as tobacco smoke contains nicotine and tar. Prolonged smoking allows these harmful substances to accumulate in the body, potentially leading to conditions such as bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia, and even atherosclerosis. Drinking more water while smoking can enhance metabolism and facilitate the timely elimination of nicotine from the bloodstream, thereby reducing nicotine-related harm. Additionally, smoking irritates the mucous membranes of the pharynx; increased water intake may help alleviate this irritation and reduce the risk of pharyngitis and tracheitis. Thus, drinking more water while smoking does confer some benefits.
Note: It is not advisable to drink water while smoking. Tar is water-soluble; therefore, drinking water during smoking may cause tar to be carried into the gastrointestinal tract with the water, potentially damaging the stomach over time. Moreover, smoking is harmful to health and detrimental to overall well-being; therefore, quitting smoking as early as possible is strongly recommended.
