Douhua is primarily made from soybeans, which contain various nutrients such as protein, calcium, and soy isoflavones. Regular consumption helps replenish essential nutrients and supports bone and dental development. As a semi-solid, easily digestible food, douhua is also readily absorbed by the body. Moreover, the soy isoflavones in douhua—often referred to as “phytoestrogens”—may help promote estrogen secretion in women, contributing to skin health and beauty. Therefore, moderate, regular intake of douhua is generally considered health-promoting. However, it is advisable to avoid consuming douhua together with spinach, as spinach contains high levels of oxalic acid; combining the two may trigger undesirable chemical reactions that could adversely affect health.
Since douhua is classified as a medium-purine food, individuals with gout should limit daily consumption, as excessive intake may elevate serum uric acid levels, thereby triggering or exacerbating gout symptoms and compromising overall health. Additionally, people with diabetes should avoid adding sugar to douhua to prevent blood glucose fluctuations.
