What Are the Methods to Eliminate Bad Breath?
Halitosis (bad breath) is commonly caused by inadequate dental hygiene, oral diseases, or gastrointestinal disorders. If halitosis persists over a prolonged period, it is essential to seek medical evaluation at a hospital to identify the underlying cause before initiating appropriate treatment. Generally, the following approaches may help alleviate halitosis:

1. Symptomatic treatment: For immediate relief of halitosis, rinse the mouth with mint- or fruit-flavored mouthwash for 2–3 minutes per session. Alternatively, thorough oral hygiene—including toothbrushing, flossing, and using an oral irrigator—can also temporarily reduce halitosis. However, these methods offer only short-term relief and have limited efficacy.
2. Etiological treatment: If halitosis stems from oral disease, ultrasonic teeth cleaning is recommended to remove food debris trapped between teeth, as well as dental calculus and plaque. Subsequently, dental caries should be restored to prevent recurrence of halitosis.
Additionally, halitosis may arise from excessive stomach heat, indigestion, or constipation. In such cases, oral administration of traditional Chinese medicines—such as Huanglian Shangqing Pills or Jianwei Xiaoshi Tablets—may be beneficial. It is advisable to maintain a light, balanced diet rich in vegetables and fruits for ongoing dietary management.
