What Causes Reduced Urine Output and Abdominal Distension?
Reduced urine output accompanied by abdominal distension may result from conditions such as prostatitis, indigestion, or bladder stones.
1. Prostatitis
Prostatitis may develop due to prolonged sitting, frequent alcohol consumption, excessive intake of spicy or irritating foods, or frequent masturbation—factors that cause vasodilation and congestion in the urethra and prostate. This congestion facilitates pathogen invasion of the urethra, leading to prostatitis. Inflammatory exudates from prostatitis can irritate the bladder mucosa and bladder neck, resulting in frequent but ineffective bladder contractions and incomplete voiding. Patients commonly experience reduced urine output and abdominal distension.
2. Indigestion
Regular consumption of cold or raw foods, or binge eating, may increase intestinal gas production or cause abdominal bloating, leading to indigestion. Such disturbances may also impair normal fluid metabolism, reducing urine output and contributing to symptoms of decreased urination and abdominal distension.
3. Bladder Stones
A family history of bladder stones, inadequate fluid intake, or long-term diets low in phosphate and protein predispose individuals to bladder stone formation. These stones may compress pelvic organs or obstruct the bladder outlet, resulting in reduced urine output and abdominal distension.
In addition, overeating, excessive sweating, or insufficient water intake may also lead to decreased urine output and abdominal distension. Prompt medical evaluation is recommended.
