Introduction
When consumed together with fish, vitamin B1 is easily destroyed. Moreover, both fish and edamame are rich in protein, which may lead to indigestion and abdominal distension. Fiddlehead ferns contain a vitamin B1–degrading enzyme that may break down the vitamin B1 present in edamame. Lamb liver is rich in copper and iron, while edamame is rich in vitamin C; consuming them together may impair vitamin C absorption.

Young soybeans (edamame) should generally not be consumed together with foods such as fish, fiddlehead ferns, or lamb liver.

1. Fish

Edamame is a herbaceous plant rich in protein and trace elements. When consumed with fish, the vitamin B1 in edamame may be degraded. Moreover, both fish and edamame are high in protein; consuming them together may overburden the gastrointestinal tract, potentially causing indigestion, abdominal distension, and other symptoms.

2. Fiddlehead Ferns

Fiddlehead ferns contain an enzyme that breaks down vitamin B1. When eaten with edamame, this enzyme may degrade the vitamin B1 present in edamame, resulting in nutritional loss. Therefore, edamame and fiddlehead ferns should not be consumed together.

3. Lamb Liver

Lamb liver is rich in copper and iron, while edamame contains abundant vitamin C. Concurrent consumption may interfere with the body’s absorption of vitamin C; thus, it is not recommended to eat edamame and lamb liver together.

Edamame should not be consumed with other high-protein foods, as this may adversely affect individuals with obesity, gout, hyperlipidemia, or pancreatitis.
