Why does taking Ganoderma lucidum spore powder cause constipation?
Constipation after consuming Ganoderma lucidum spore powder may be caused by “internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept referring to excessive internal body heat).
Ganoderma lucidum spore powder has a sweet taste and is traditionally used to relieve coughing and wheezing, tonify Qi and nourish blood, regulate blood lipid levels, and help prevent tumors. It can also increase insulin concentration and accelerate glucose metabolism, thereby exerting a notable hypoglycemic effect. Additionally, it modulates the central nervous system, producing calming and sedative effects—effectively improving symptoms such as dizziness and insomnia associated with neurasthenia. Spore powder is considered neutral in nature; therefore, moderate intake typically does not induce internal heat. However, excessive or prolonged consumption may lead to internal heat accumulation, potentially resulting in constipation. Thus, during spore powder supplementation, it is advisable to appropriately increase intake of fruits and vegetables to help prevent constipation.
Moreover, it is not recommended to consume Ganoderma lucidum spore powder concurrently with coffee, strong tea, chili peppers, or other spicy, stimulating foods, as their irritant properties may interfere with the efficacy of the spore powder.
