How to perform first aid for fainting due to hypoxia
Emergency management of syncope caused by hypoxia typically includes removing the patient from the hypoxic environment, adjusting the patient’s position, performing artificial respiration, and seeking prompt medical attention.
1. Remove the patient from the hypoxic environment
Bystanders should promptly move the patient to an environment with higher oxygen concentration. Simultaneously, ensure the patient’s clothing is loose and the airway remains unobstructed to facilitate emergency care.
2. Adjust the patient’s position
After removal from the hypoxic environment, place the patient in a supine position with the head slightly lower than the feet (Trendelenburg position) and turn the head to one side. This positioning helps improve oxygen delivery to vital organs and prevents aspiration in case of vomiting.
3. Artificial respiration
If the patient has ceased spontaneous breathing, immediate mouth-to-mouth resuscitation should be initiated to deliver oxygen and maintain adequate blood oxygenation, thereby reducing the risk of shock or death.
4. Seek prompt medical attention
If the patient’s condition does not improve clearly following initial first-aid measures, continue administering emergency care while urgently transporting the patient to a healthcare facility for further evaluation and treatment.
