Introduction
For a 6-month-old infant with fever, an excessively high ambient temperature may cause body temperature to continue rising or decline more slowly; excessive heat may also lead to irritability, crying, and poor sleep quality. Conversely, if the ambient temperature is too low, heat dissipation may be impaired. In such cases, air conditioning may be used to adjust the environmental temperature. However, if the ambient temperature is already comfortable and appropriate, air conditioning should not be used for a 6-month-old infant with fever.

If a 6-month-old baby has a fever, air conditioning can generally be used when the ambient temperature is abnormal. However, if the surrounding temperature is already comfortable, air conditioning should usually not be used.

1. Air conditioning can be used

When a 6-month-old baby has a fever and the surrounding environment is too hot, excessive sweating may lead to fluid loss, making it harder for body temperature to decrease or even causing further elevation. Overheating may also cause irritability, poor sleep, and other discomforts. Conversely, if the environment is too cold, heat dissipation is impaired. In such cases, using air conditioning to adjust the room temperature appropriately can help regulate the baby's body temperature and promote recovery.

2. Air conditioning should not be used

If the ambient temperature is already within a comfortable range—such as between 23°C and 28°C—it is generally not advisable to use air conditioning for a 6-month-old with a fever. This is because air conditioning might make the room too cold or too dry, interfering with the baby’s natural thermoregulation, potentially worsening the condition or slowing recovery. Additionally, air conditioning may reduce indoor air circulation or increase dryness, possibly leading to respiratory discomfort in the baby.
