Introduction
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is compressed within the carpal tunnel, causing symptoms such as numbness in both hands. Additionally, improper sleeping posture that compresses nerves in patients with cervical spondylosis can also lead to similar symptoms. Most elderly individuals have atherosclerosis, including peripheral arterial hardening; due to reduced blood supply to the distal parts of the hands, they may also experience numbness in both hands.

Experiencing numbness in both hands every night during sleep may be caused by carpal tunnel syndrome, cervical spondylosis, or impaired microcirculation in the hands.

1. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome typically results from compression of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel, leading to symptoms such as numbness and pain in both hands—particularly in individuals whose daily activities involve repetitive hand movements.

2. Cervical Spondylosis

In patients with cervical spondylosis, improper sleeping posture or changes in body position during sleep can compress local nerves, thereby causing bilateral hand numbness.

3. Impaired Hand Microcirculation

Many elderly individuals suffer from arterial sclerosis—including coronary artery disease and peripheral arterial disease—especially stenosis of the subclavian artery in the upper limbs. Severe stenosis reduces blood supply to the distal portions of the hands, further compromising perfusion and resulting in bilateral hand numbness.

If bilateral hand numbness occurs nightly during sleep and persists without relief over an extended period, prompt medical evaluation at a hospital is recommended to determine the underlying cause and initiate appropriate treatment.
