Introduction
If a patient has retained fetal membranes in the uterus, abdominal massage can be used to assist in expelling the residual tissue and promote uterine recovery. The massage technique can be simply summarized into three steps: "circling," "kneading," and "pressing." First, place both hands overlapping on the abdomen and massage in clockwise and counterclockwise circular motions. Second, place each hand on the inguinal regions and knead downward from top to bottom. Third, use the index fingers to press and hold the uterine acupoints for five minutes each.

If a patient has retained fetal membranes in the uterus, abdominal massage may be used to help expel the residual tissue and promote uterine recovery. The specific massage techniques are as follows:

1. Place both hands overlapping on the center of the lower abdomen, and gently massage in clockwise circular motions for 5 minutes, or until the abdomen feels slightly warm. After completing this, repeat the same motion counterclockwise for another 5 minutes.

2. Place the left and right hands respectively on the left and right inguinal regions, and gently massage downward along the inguinal groove for 5 minutes.

3. Place the index and middle fingers of both hands approximately four to five finger-widths lateral to the point located one finger-width below the navel, and gently press and hold for 5 minutes.

In addition, patients should take care not to apply excessive pressure during massage to avoid pain. The pressure should be sufficient only to cause mild warmth in the abdominal skin. It is best to perform the massage 30 minutes before meals to avoid interfering with digestion.
