Does linagliptin tablet have any side effects on the liver?
Linagliptin tablets generally do not cause adverse effects on the liver.
Linagliptin tablets are antidiabetic agents clinically indicated primarily for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. As monotherapy, they serve as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. Potential adverse effects include muscle pain, hypoglycemia, upper respiratory tract infection, headache, and cough; however, linagliptin typically does not adversely affect liver function. Therefore, dose adjustment is generally unnecessary in patients with hepatic impairment, and patients need not be overly concerned. Compared with other antidiabetic medications, linagliptin has a relatively favorable safety profile with fewer side effects. When used in combination with other antidiabetic agents—and coupled with appropriate dietary management and regular physical activity—it can effectively maintain blood glucose levels within the normal range in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Linagliptin tablets are generally contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug—for example, those who experience urticaria, bronchial hyperreactivity, or angioedema.
