Introduction
Causes of right-sided abdominal pain: 1. Right upper quadrant pain, especially occurring after consuming greasy food, with significant pain accompanied by radiating pain to the right shoulder and back, is commonly seen in cholecystitis or gallstones. In such cases, an ultrasound of the liver and biliary system can confirm the diagnosis. 2. Right abdominal pain associated with jaundice (yellowing of the skin and sclera) and fever suggests biliary obstruction due to common bile duct stones or a neoplastic lesion in the bile duct.

You often feel unwell in daily life. Abdominal pain is the most common symptom, especially recurring pain in the right side of the abdomen that does not improve over time. What could be causing right-sided abdominal pain?

What Causes Right-Sided Abdominal Pain?

1. Pain in the upper right abdomen, particularly after consuming greasy foods, accompanied by obvious discomfort and radiating pain to the right shoulder or back, is commonly seen in cholecystitis or gallstones. An ultrasound of the liver and gallbladder can confirm the diagnosis.

2. Right abdominal pain associated with jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes) and fever may indicate common bile duct stones or tumor-like lesions in the bile duct.

3. Right abdominal pain is most frequently caused by ureteral stones or intestinal functional disorders.

4. Pain in the lower right abdomen is most commonly due to appendicitis, as well as neoplastic conditions of the right colon or intestinal tuberculosis.

5. In female patients, lower right abdominal pain may result from inflammatory or tumor-like lesions of the right adnexa.

Comprehensive examinations for right-sided abdominal pain include abdominal color Doppler ultrasound, urinary system color Doppler ultrasound, complete blood count, urinalysis, and stool routine tests. When necessary, a chest X-ray or chest CT scan should be performed to rule out right pleuritis or right pleural effusion. Additional tests such as pancreatic amylase, serum amylase, and urine amylase may also be required.

If you experience right-sided abdominal pain, it is recommended to visit a hospital for a thorough evaluation to determine the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment under medical guidance. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness!
