What to do if you step on a nail: how to treat the wound
If a patient accidentally steps on a nail, the wound should be managed by rinsing with water, disinfection, dressing and immobilization, and preventive measures. Specific steps are as follows:
1. Rinse with clean water: After stepping on a nail, the patient should thoroughly rinse the wound surface under running tap water. Simultaneously, gently squeeze from the proximal end toward the distal end to expel blood and contaminants.

2. Disinfection: After cleaning and drying the wound, apply antiseptic solutions such as iodine (An'erdian) or hydrogen peroxide to the affected area in a circular motion twice, ensuring each disinfection covers an area with a diameter greater than 5 cm.
3. Dressing and immobilization: Cover the wound with sterile gauze and secure it with adhesive tape to prevent exposure to contaminants and potential infection. Note that the dressing should not be too tight.
4. Preventive treatment: The patient should go to a hospital to receive a tetanus immunoglobulin injection to prevent tetanus.
