How is mandibular angle surgery performed?
Mandibular angle surgery, also known as mandibular angle osteoplasty, is performed under general anesthesia using specialized instruments to shave or grind down the angular structure of the mandibular angle, thereby achieving a more aesthetically pleasing jawline. The typical procedure for mandibular angle osteoplasty is as follows:
1. Preoperative examination: including blood tests, blood pressure measurement, electrocardiogram (ECG), and ultrasound.

2. Anesthesia: general anesthesia is typically used for osteoplasty, and endotracheal intubation is considered safer in this case.
3. Incision and bone reshaping: an incision is made inside the mouth near the mandibular angle, muscles and bones are separated, and excess bone is removed. In cases with poor bone structure, micro oscillating saws, bone chisels, or bone-cutting forceps may be required for precise contouring.
4. Suturing: after bone removal, bone wax is applied to the bony wound surface. The incision is sutured closed, and a drainage tube is placed simultaneously to remove accumulated blood.
5. Compression dressing: the face is wrapped with compression bandages to control bleeding and assist in shaping the new contours.
