What should I do if I have a cold with body aches during pregnancy?
If you have a severe cold accompanied by body aches, it is best to go to the hospital for an examination and use medication appropriately under a doctor's guidance. Since body aches caused by colds vary among individuals and may stem from different causes, treatment should be tailored accordingly. It is advisable to get a proper diagnosis before combining medications. Do not misuse cold medicines, as this could worsen your condition. The following are some remedies for pregnant women experiencing body aches due to colds.
1. Bath therapy
Prepare a bath with chamomile flowers and lie in it for 15–20 minutes. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral properties and helps relieve fatigue. Soaking in chamomile can help relax tense muscles and nerves and aid in eliminating toxins from the body, effectively alleviating body aches caused by colds, such as shoulder and neck pain. Note: Bathing is not recommended during the first three months of pregnancy.
2. Brown sugar ginger tea
Brown sugar ginger tea promotes sweating, relieves exterior symptoms, dispels wind, and removes cold. It is highly effective for fever, nasal congestion, runny nose, weakness, headaches, and body aches caused by colds due to wind-cold invasion.
3. Mulberry leaf and mint tea
Mulberry leaf and mint tea has effects of cooling the body, relieving exterior symptoms, dispersing wind, clearing heat, and promoting lung function to stop coughing. It is primarily used to treat symptoms caused by wind-heat colds, including headache, sore and swollen throat, nasal congestion with yellow mucus, and body aches.
Pregnant women should also drink plenty of warm water, avoid staying up late and overexertion, rest in bed more often, and ensure good indoor ventilation while keeping warm to prevent chills.
