Can you eat fish after eating watermelon?
Generally, it is best not to eat fish immediately after consuming watermelon, as this may affect the digestion and absorption of food.
Watermelon is considered a cooling food and is rich in vitamin C, while fish is a type of meat containing abundant protein. Eating either one alone is fine. However, when consumed together, they may interfere with nutrient absorption. Not only can this reduce the nutritional benefits, but it may also cause proteins to coagulate, impairing digestion and absorption. In severe cases, symptoms such as diarrhea or gastrointestinal stones may occur.
It is recommended to eat watermelon either before or after meals, and to consume fish during main meals. There should be at least a 2-3 hour gap between eating the two, to prevent interactions between their components that could diminish their nutritional value and negatively impact health. Additionally, it's important to note that both watermelon and fish are considered cooling foods; excessive consumption may irritate the gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal pain, which are detrimental to overall health.
