Introduction
The difference between type A and type B chronic atrophic gastritis lies in the location of the disease. Both type A and type B gastritis are forms of atrophic gastritis. However, type A gastritis is caused by inflammatory infection in the gastric body, leading to diffuse distribution of lesions in this area, whereas type B gastritis results from inflammation in the antrum, and typically presents with a relatively higher number of lesions.

Chronic atrophic gastritis types A and B differ based on the location of the disease.

Both type A and type B gastritis are forms of atrophic gastritis. However, type A gastritis results from inflammatory infection in the gastric body, causing diffuse distribution of lesions in this area. In contrast, type B gastritis is caused by inflammation in the antrum, with relatively more concentrated lesions. Type A gastritis is also commonly known as autoimmune gastritis, possibly due to deficiencies in intrinsic factor or reduced gastric acid secretion, and may be accompanied by symptoms of anemia. Type B gastritis is more common clinically and is often caused by Helicobacter pylori infection leading to superficial gastritis. Without timely medical treatment, it can easily lead to malignant transformation in the affected area.

It is recommended that patients with chronic atrophic gastritis—whether type A or type B—seek prompt examination and treatment at a reputable hospital. Additionally, during illness, patients should eat easily digestible, mild foods and avoid spicy or irritating foods.
