Introduction
In general, watermelon seeds should not be consumed when taking medication. After taking medicine, the body needs to absorb and metabolize the drugs; consuming watermelon seeds at this time may interfere with the drug's effectiveness. Therefore, watermelon seeds should be avoided during medication. Moderate consumption of watermelon seeds can benefit health, but excessive intake may easily lead to internal heat (a condition referred to as "shang huo" in traditional Chinese medicine).

Generally, it is not advisable to eat watermelon seeds while taking medication.

After taking medicine, the body needs time to absorb and metabolize the drug. Consuming watermelon seeds at this time may interfere with the drug's effectiveness; therefore, one should avoid eating watermelon seeds when taking medication. It is safe to eat watermelon seeds about one hour after taking medicine, as by then the body has mostly completed the absorption process, and consuming seeds will not significantly affect the medication’s efficacy. Patients should strictly follow medical instructions when taking medication and avoid using drugs indiscriminately to prevent adverse effects on health.

Watermelon seeds do have certain nutritional benefits. They are rich in oils, which can provide energy, and contain a relatively high amount of calcium that supports tooth and bone development. Thus, moderate consumption of watermelon seeds can be beneficial to health. However, excessive intake should be avoided, as it may place undue strain on the digestive system, leading to gastrointestinal discomfort. Moreover, overeating watermelon seeds may easily lead to "heatiness" (a traditional concept referring to symptoms like sore throat or constipation due to internal heat).
